SIM intends to reassert the bronze IAAF label

27 June 2012

The Siberian International Marathon has applied to reassert the elite Road Race Bronze status conferred by the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF).

Let us remind that the Siberian International Marathon received this status after the 2011 marathon. In accordance with the IAAF rules, the marathon must annually reassert its status. Otherwise, it is withdrawn.

To reassert it, the SIM directorate must meet the same requirements as the ones they did last year. As the SIM executive director Andrey Sandalkin noted, every last requirement will be met. “Same as last year, elite professional sportsmen from at least 5 countries will partake in the Siberian International Marathon. Also, the RUSADO anti-doping commission will be invited,” said Andrey Sandalkin.

Other requirements have been met by the SIM directorate during the last few years. Among them there are: certified running track, significant prize fund, automatic logging system, online result card composition via Internet, live broadcast on video screens set up on the start and finish lines, and assurance of the marathoners.

The Siberian International Marathon still stays the only Russian marathon to hold the Road Race Bronze status.

As expected, the international statusincrease has notably affected the image of the Siberian Marathon as viewed by foreigners. During the World Congress of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Racesheld in Prague in May, the AIMS administration as well asorganizers of other international marathons noted the uniqueness of the Omsk race and its high level of organization.
